Recording heavy drums can be a daunting task when it comes to home studio production.
If you have any experience recording live drums, you probably know that it can be a major pain in the ass.
Especially if you’re going for a drum sound that’s anywhere near what you hear on your favorite records.
Cymbal bleed, overtones, room spill…
Drums ain’t easy to record.
Unfortunately, the bad news is that it’s extremely difficult (if not impossible) to fix poorly recorded drums within a mix. Drums really do have to be recorded right in the first place if you’re looking for that pro-level drum sound.
But there is the GOOD news:
Producing a polished, fully professional drum sound (even without using drum samples) is NOT as hard as you’d think…….IF you know how.
The trick is to know what to focus on when you dig into your production.
In part one of this week’s 3-part video series, I’ll be showing you how I went about recording heavy drums that sound 100% pro..
Using only an 8-channel interface and cheapo Samson drum microphone kit.
If you’re interested in learning how I produce drums (both live drums and EZdrummer), bass, guitar, and vocals..
In non-studio spaces..
As well as how I went about mixing and mastering the production..
Be sure to catch the entire video series.

It’s a simple, to-the-point checklist that highlights all of the key points that I teach throughout the video series.
