Here’s something I don’t hear talked about enough in the online audio space:
Every good house needs a solid foundation, and mixing is the exact same way.
If your foundation is weak, it doesn’t matter how nice the finishes are…things will start to fall apart down the road.
In mixing, this skill is what I call foundation mixing:
- Solid levels
- Intentional panning
- Smart use of high-pass filters
When those three things aren’t right, no amount of EQ, compression, or plugins will save the mix.
You’ll just end up endlessly chasing your tail.I just posted a new video where I break this down and actually prove it inside my DAW.
No hype. No tricks. Just clear before-and-after examples so you can hear for yourself just how important this skill really is.
The good news is that you don’t need to be a pro with “golden ears” to pull this off…you just need to focus your attention on the right things.
If mixing has ever felt frustrating or overwhelming, this might help you reset your approach to it.
